Neurodynamics

WHAT

Neurodynamics (flossing) is a fancy word for "the movement of nerves".Nerves span from our spine to our hands and feet. They help us move and feel. Nerves not only help our bodies move, they are also designed for movement themselves. Nerves slide, withstand compression and can be placed under tension. Tight structures surrounding the nerves can cause the nerves to "stick". When nerves can not move freely this can lead to pain, weakness, or decreased mobility.

HOW

Over periods of prolonged positions, such as sitting, surrounding tissues become tight. Nerves intertwine with surrounding structures and can become stuck. For example, when the hamstring becomes tight, it can cause the sciatic nerve to become stuck. In order to unstick the nerve it is best to slide the nerve otherwise known as "flossing". Flossing is a prescribed combination of movements that gently slides the nerve back and forth.

WHO BENEFITS

A lot of people can benefit from neurodynamics. Neurodynamics restores nerve movement, decreases pain, improves mobility, and can decrease muscular weakness.
